Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District will be hosting their annual EMT-B class beginning August 20, 2024.  The program is organized to provide the student with knowledge of acute, critical changes in physiology, psychological, and clinical symptomatology as they pertain to the pre-hospital emergency medical care of the infant, child, adult, and geriatric patient. Students shall have an opportunity to acquire clinical experiences and practice skills related to the emergency medical care of these patients. Students shall have the understandings of the ethical and legal responsibilities, which they assume as both a student and licensed EMT Basic.

The educational program consists of didactic instruction, skills laboratory, and clinical instruction. The didactic component consists of lectures, discussions, and demonstrations, presented by paramedics and EMT Basics. The clinical component consists of supervised practice of emergency medical skills while in the emergency department. At the end of class, students who uphold the passing standard, will have the opportunity to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (NREMT-B).

 Qualifications

  • Must be 17 ½ years old or older to attend class.  
  • Must be a high school graduate or GED to take the National Exam. 
  • All students must pass a 10 panel drug test and criminal background to participate in the program. 
  • COVID vaccination is recommended, however NOT required.  

Class schedule – Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm -  10:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.  The entire course will be approximately twelve weeks long.
