By Office Manager Pamela Hall
December 3, 2024

The Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District is pleased to announce its newest firefighter Cinder (Badge Number #73). Cinder will be the Fire Department's crisis support / response therapist!

Cinder will be no ordinary firefighter. With a wagging tail and a heart of gold, this four-legged hero will specialize in Therapy and Emotional Support. Whether it's comforting a colleague after a tough call, bringing smiles to children during fire safety demonstrations, or simply lending a listening ear (and a wet nose) to anyone in need, Cinder is always there to offer a paw of comfort. She will be available to all of our community partners.

This furry friend will be a vital part of the fire department family, helping to create a positive and supportive environment. She is currently in training at her own specialized fire academy. She will be ready to test the following: American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen, American Kennel Club Canine Community Canine, and American Kennel Club Canine Urban Canine Good Citizen ( https://www.akc.org/ ). She will also have well over 25 Hours of documented Community Service Work, signed off by facilities she visits so we watch who is currently making a difference too!

We can't wait to welcome Cinder to the Elburn Fire Department Family! Cinder's presence helps to:
Reduce Stress and Anxiety: The calming presence of a dog has been shown to lower stress levels and promote relaxation.
Boost Morale: Cinder's playful antics and unconditional love bring joy and laughter to the firehouse.
Foster Connection: Cinder acts as a social catalyst, encouraging interaction and camaraderie among the team and community members.

Cinder will be in training until early Summer of 2025. In training, she will be training with her current trainer(s) and their local Fire Department so Cinder starts to get used to the equipment, sounds and smells. She will continue to visit children and people in Schools, Nursing Homes and much more! We will provide frequent updates on her progress and post lots of photos and videos on social media. Please stay tuned for an announcement of her community swearing in ceremony next summer, 2025!
