Don't wait, check the date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years! • Remove the smoke alarm from the wall or ceiling; • Look at the back of the smoke alarm for the date of manufacture; • Smoke alarms should be replaced 10 years from the date of manufacture; • Put the alarm back on the ceiling or wall if it is less than 10 years old.
10-year sealed-battery smoke alarms are designed to remain effective for up to ten years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm immediately.
Also check and/or replace your batteries in your CO detectors. This is also a great time to review and practice your home fire escape plan! |
